The diagnosis changed something negative into something positive.

I was happy to get tested. My iron levels were in the thousands.

The good thing about the diagnosis was it gave me permission to have haemochromatosis; I had an explanation.

The diagnosis changed something negative into something positive. While I still have symptoms, I now know the cause and understand what is going on.

The great thing is to know that the condition can be treated simply through blood donation. My blood can go to use; you feel like you’re doing something positive. I’m up to about 140 donations.

That was particularly important to me because I had a very ill son who unfortunately passed away last year, and he benefitted from blood donations for the various operations he had.
